【摘要】:Thisguideoutlinesdosimetricprocedurestobefollowedfortheradiationsterilizationofliveinsectsforuseinpestmanagementprograms.Theprimaryuseofirradiated,reproductivelysterileinsectsisintheSterileInsectTechnique,wherelargenumbersofsterileinsectsarereleasedintothefieldtomatewithandthuscontrolpestpopulationsofthesamespecies.Asecondaryuseofirradiatedinsectsisasbenign"hosts"forrearinginsectparasitoids.Iffollowed,theproceduresoutlineinthisguidewillhelptoensurethatinsectsprocessedwithionizingradiationfromgamma,electron,orX-raysourcesreceiveabsorbeddoseswithinapredeterminedrange.Informationoneffectivedoserangesforspecificapplicationsofinsectsterilization,oronmethodologyfordeterminingeffectivedoseranges,isnotwithinthescopeofthisguideNote-Dosimetryisonlyonecomponentofatotalqualitycontrolprogramtoensurethatirradiatedinsectsareadequatelysterilizedandfullycompetitiveorotherwisesuitablefortheirintendedpurpose.Thisguidecoversdosimetryintheirradiationofinsectsforthesetypesofirradiators:self-containeddry-storage137Csor60Coirradiators,larger-scalegammairradiators,anelectronaccelerators.Additional,detailedinformationondosimetricprocedurestobefollowedininstallationqualification,processqualification,androutineproductprocessingcanbefoundinPracticeE1608(X-ray,bremsstrahlungfacilities),PracticeE1649(electronbeamfacilities),andPracticeE1702(large-scalegammafacilities).Theabsorbeddoseforinsectsterilizationistypicallywithintherangeof20Gyto600Gy.Thisguiderefers,throughoutthetext,specificallytoreproductivesterilizationofinsect.Itisequallyapplicabletoradiationsterilizationofinvertebratesfromothertaxa(forexample,Acarina,Gastropoda)andtoirradiationofliveinsectsorotherinvertebratesforotherpurposes(forexample,inducingmutations),presumingtheabsorbeddoseiswithinrangespecifiedinThisguidealsocoverstheuseofradiation-sensitiveindicatorsforthevisualandqualitativeindicationthattheinsectshavebeenirradiated.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
